Growing up in western North Carolina in a community known as New House(or Rehobeth Church depending on who you ask), the peace and calm of this countryside is where Philbeck got his first inspirations to paint. The fields, forests, placid streams and rivers all provided fodder for his imagination to create. Out of the wilds, frontiersman carved into the countryside the farm. Fond recollections of days past are evoked seeing the faded boards of an an old Appalachian barn in North Carolina, the winding road by a New England dairy or the glistening icy wonderland created by the setting sun in Tennesee. Nostalgia for the farm is something so many can relate to.
